fab fit fun

fab fit fun
i designed the fall 2017 fabfitfun subscription box, and even got a little tour around their offices here in LA when i went to pick up my sample. i chose the pink one but it comes in blue and yellow as well!

i was frantically finishing up work on this one the day we were moving out of buffalo (boris actually waited behind me with the box from my computer at the ready as i uploaded the huge files to my dropbox). it's always nice to see the final product of a complicated job long after the stress of working on it has faded away...

"elizabeth and zenobia" by jessica miller

Elizabeth and Zenobia
i feel especially proud of having worked on this book. i read the manuscript in late night silence - as you should with all gothic novels - and was thoroughly spooked. not only was the story's ghostly mood a thrill to work with as an artist, its themes of fear and courage were particularly moving to me as a reader. my favorite kind of literary "hauntings" are metaphorical - daphne du maurier's rebecca or shirley jackson's the haunting of hill house, for example - rather than some transparent, floating apparition, ghosts are our fears, insecurities, regrets. elizabeth and zenobia is elegant and subtle in this way, but the plot is much more than that and you'll have to read it to see what i mean.

if you like horticulture, sinister wallpaper and edwardian children who host séances in a dusty old mansion, i recommend curling up with this one in the fall. out now!
