solitaire

photo dc1b0368-ee99-43bd-a46c-9860f635b818_zpseca80719.jpg this is the first in a series of six paintings for yet another enormous tiny art show in portsmouth, new hampshire. after seeing the ├ędouard vuillard exhibition at the jewish museum and then impressionism, fashion and modernity at the met, i feel a renewed enthusiasm for drawing pensive women doing solitary things. and what's more solitary than solitaire? i've been laying out this particular game of patience since i was little.

photo solitaire_palette1_zpsa6e03cb1.jpg the palette was inspired by a bouquet of flowers i saw on the street in new york. i'm trying to move away from my usual, intuitive blue-gray and be more courageous and deliberate with color.

great palette and (as usual) love it

It does seems a self portrait of sorts but you know on some level our art generally is.

The feeling you get into the eyes with just a few lines is, as always, remarkable

Beautiful and love how the colors of the bouquet directly translate into your image. Might have to shake up my own color palette in the studio today...

The mood and colors take my breath away... I want to wander around in this painting, exploring all the nooks and crannies and bathing in the rose and peach and blush pinks!! Another extraordinary & charming work, Yelena. You are AMAZING!
